Equilateral prisms have three equal 60° angles. Thanks to their geometry and optical properties, which separate light of different wavelengths, they are often used as dispersive prisms and are widely applied in spectral analysis and other fields.


Dispersive prisms are usually triangular in cross-section. Because different wavelengths of light are refracted at different angles in the same material, they can decompose polychromatic light into monochromatic light, playing a key role in spectrometers, optical parametric oscillators, and other instruments.

Scope of application:

1.Optical experiments: equilateral prisms can be used to observe the refraction of light in different media, and dispersive prisms can decompose polychromatic light into monochromatic light for analysis of the spectral composition of light.

2.Spectral analysis: incident polychromatic light is dispersed by wavelength to form a spectrum.

3.Optical imaging: used to adjust the optical path and improve image quality.

4.Optical communications: dispersive prisms can be used in wavelength division multiplexing systems.

5.Laser technology: in laser systems, equilateral prisms and dispersive prisms can be used to change the direction, shape, and wavelength of a laser beam.
